Private Victories
I am a team player who values internal relationships. I help to prevent polarization, reduce communication-based conflicts, and create unified progress.
I work hard to earn the respect of those I work with and am tremendously proud of the relationships I have developed. I combine my technical experience with curiosity, empathy, effective communication, positivity, discipline and an attention to detail which enables me to work well with various personas including...
Leaders, Visionaries, and Product Managers
-
I can understand the vision from company leaders, and excel at helping to realize that vision (including creating/realizing business objectives).
-
I seek to understand the strengths of others and work to complement them, without swerving into their lane.
-
I obsess about the details of the products I am responsible for, helping to build momentum while enabling others to work to their strengths.
-
I am more than capable of creating milestone-based roadmaps based on priorities, risks, and feedback (see Collin's testimonial and examples below).
-
I pride myself in on-time and under-budget deliveries.
Field Engineers / Installation Partners
-
I know what it is like to be at a critical customer facility with all eyes on you while deploying a first of its kind system.
-
Example: Only UCOS engineer | Oil Rig | South China Sea | 12-16 hours shifts | 7 days a week | 1 month hitch | $2M per day in liquidated damages.
-
My controls background, empathy for field engineers, and natural curiosity empowers me to help advance products that make their lives easier.
-
I excel at creating a-la-carte technical product training material that enables new hires and installation partners. (see sample YouTube training playlist)
-
I make myself available to all field engineers, day or night!
Software Engineers / Developers
-
My 14 years of working with a SW team + technical experience + controls perspective allows me to better understand and communicate product insights.
-
I excel at aggregating/unifying inputs from various stakeholders to uncover the best possible outcome, better than the sum of its parts (Global Std Lead).
-
I understand that scalable systems cannot be custom tailored to the perspective on any single user, engineer, or customer.
-
I create vivid descriptions of the end goal which act as clear actionable targets (define why/what, leaving developers to focus on how).
-
I have empathy for developers and begin with the end in mind to help prevent backtracking or backing a product into a corner.
-
I work well with software developers, can hold technical discussions, would never talk past someone, and know the value of standardization.
Quality Assurance Engineers
-
I leverage my proactive nature to hypothesize about all the different ways something can fail. I leverage my OCD to create detailed test procedures.
-
I go into every nook and cranny of the products I am responsible for to find and resolve issues (before anyone steps foot on a customer facility).
-
I take quality escapes personally and feel responsible if I have not either found an issue myself or enabled others to find it.
-
Eliminating defects = increased customer trust, enabled scalability, reduced stress for field engineers, and less polarizing blame related to quality escapes.

Public Victories
I am customer obsessed (external or internal). As a systems engineer, I have experience in gaining efficiencies and enabling scalability.
1) I think on a systems level and have experience in the performance optimization & predictive maintenance space.
At UCOS, we are the edge-based control platform interacting with our companies own cloud based digital twin (visualization and efficiency driving platform).
As the only UCOS systems engineer, I have been responsible for the development and management of all aspects of many complex systems
Systems that include tooling, software, hardware, site specific configurations, customer feedback, value creation, etc.
Disclaimer: UCOS has only entered the efficiency seeking cloud based digital twin space in the past few years, and I am sure our philosophy is different than that of CrossnoKaye's. So, I do have a lot to learn about AI and its use in economic model based controls (but I promise I am capable of learning).
Here is a presentation I created in May of this year related to how we are leveraging our current digital twins to positively impact customer efficiency. I also developed the strategy for how UCOS assesses valve integrity for predictive maintenance purposes and would be happy to share that as another work sample.

2) I help facilitate the creation of products that customers love to use.
See the below video on a recent design and execution proposal I created for a new terminal automation opportunity.

I would also be happy to give a demonstration on how we created the world's first ever Frac Pad Automation system (now called CyberFrac/iComplete).
3) I enable scalability through systems that are effectively architected, easy to deploy, and easy to maintain.
As the original product responsible engineer and global standardization lead for all our offshore control systems, I created the first ever configure to order (CTO) UCOS application. An application that now serves many different customers on 6 continents and has accumulated 80+ years of incident free runtime.
For more info see MCS within projects section of online portfolio at www.braddeemer.com.

I have also spent the past 2 years helping Chevron refactor and re-architect the controls for ALL their truck loading terminals in North America.
The result... they now have 22 different terminals using a single standardized template library making each terminal much easier to both deploy and maintain.
I got the upgrade process down from a few days to a few hours (terminals that load over $5M/day).
Effectively Architected
-
Happy to get in front of a white-board to describe how we have architected systems before using layers to enable scalability.
-
Also very interested in learning how CrossnoKaye has architected its solutions (and suspect I will learn alot).
-
One work sample I have is our nodeset based MCS to DCS Interface Standardization (MDIS) functionality which streamlines interface creation/testing. (Mistake Proofing)
Easy to Deploy
-
Standardize core functionality to enable Configure to Order model.
-
Eliminate quality escapes within core functionality.
-
Create great tools and workflows for those deploying.
-
Effectively train those using the tools to deploy.
-
Reduce specialized knowledge required to enter site specific details.
-
Reduce specialized people doing unspecialized work.
-
Diff all site-specific configurations to gain insights on further optimizations.
Easy to Maintain
-
Keep things on a single trunk instead of many branches.
-
Version Control + Configuration Management.
-
Effective regression testing to enable backwards capability or migration planning.
-
Risk Management and Obsolescence Planning.
CrossnoKaye Value Proposition
Background
14+ years experience advancing the tooling, usability, functionality and quality of a proprietary software based controls platform (UCOS).
When I was hired for QA in 2009, the UCOS team was around 20 employees, and made money selling one-time software licenses.
Currently UCOS is the main controls platform for the world's 3rd largest service/equipment provider to the energy industry (TechnipFMC | 20,000+ employees).
UCOS is now internally leveraged to sell Configure To Order (CTO) systems and services. (Hundreds of customers | 3,000+ installed nodes globally).
Consistent top contributor in terms of enabling growth through collaboration, effective solution architectures, and product development/management.

I had the fortune of working with Brad shortly after joining the Surface Digital Product Management team and faced the daunting task of learning a new control system as well as the Upstream Production Industry.
Brad is one of those individuals with the rare trait of being able to seamlessly shift from discussing big picture strategic vision, road map, end goal to the level of minute detail required for code and logic development. Working with someone with his knowledge of Physics, control logic methodology, and intimate knowledge of advising the Core Product teams development through multiple generations of a control system was a singular experience for me, in over 15 years working in automation.
I cannot sufficiently stress the strategic advantage of someone who can operate simultaneously in blue-sky ideation and the nuanced detail of code development (where were going and how to get there). It was impressive to work with Brad, weaving the art of the possible while keeping us grounded through his understanding of time and resource demands each decision point placed on the projects. Brad is the quintessential renaissance man: ingenious, thorough, a selfless teammate and teacher.
